Start your musical journey today and learn the fundamentals of melody and rhythm under the mentorship of Sangeet Samrat Chitravina N Ravikiran, hailed by the global media as the Mozart of India, through this comprehensive video course.
This final segment offers a comprehensive introduction to geetams, simple yet expressive musical forms that beautifully blend melody and rhythm with lyrics. Simple Tiruppuhazhs may also be included. Thiruppugazh is a 15th-century anthology of Tamil religious hymns composed by saint Arunagirinathar that praises the "Divine Glory" of Lord Muruga through complex rhythmic poetry.
Composed at either the first or second speeds, these uncomplicated tunes serve as a gateway to understanding the foundational concepts of ragas.
Throughout this module, students will develop essential skills in learning and presenting these simple compositions, focusing on raga lakshana, key phrases, swara, gamakas, lyric segmentation, and tala. The curriculum also introduces two swarajatis, which are more sophisticated musical forms characterized by longer compositions typically performed at the third speed. Each swarajati features a pallavi and multiple charanams, rendered in both swara and sahitya (lyrics), providing a more enriching musical experience. Additionally, students will have access to the notations and theoretical insights found in the Perfecting Carnatic Music Level 1 eBook, which is included as complimentary material with this course.
